Asleep or awake

This morning I was asleep then, I woke up. This happens every morning of every day for millions of people all over the world. In some cases people work the night shift and then the same thing happens only it is at night. I think it is important to be yourself, to develop, understand and embrace what makes you unique. By this understanding and embracing we will find true joy, but how can we do that, when we all do the same thing every morning, every day? Well in an effort to answer this I suggest we look to one of the experts on joy… “Those who are awake live in a constant state of amazement” – the budha I can’t think of a better way to put it.

There was a television show on NBC called Awake, the show aired for one season. Awake was the story of a police officer who was involved in a horrific car accident which involved himself wife and child. After the accident he found that his wife had died and he and his son survived, that night he went to sleep only to awake and find that he and his wife had survived and his son died. This was the hell that the audeince experienced through the officers point of view. The first few episodes have the officer fighting the reality and trying to understand it, finally he strikes a balance in which he accepts and thrives in both realities.

Looking though many religious, psychology,  sociology and humanity texts we will find that many people are implored to “wake up”, this waking up is used as  many  religious, psychology,  sociology and humanity texts do, loosely and figuratively. In the texts waking up is more of an enlightenment  state of mind. See things differently today than you did yesterday. Try something new if what you are doing isn’t working. If what you are doing is working than do more. These are two of many ways to avoid living our lives in a state of sleep. Rediscover the important people in your life (that’s a big one!), the way to keep from living life asleep differs from person to person, because we are unique.  Imagine a world were everyone lives their lives awake in a state of amazement and enlightenment. I said I wasn’t going to do it but you know I have to

“Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one” — John Lennon

That song was one of the best songs he ever did and the hope and vision should not have died with him.
How are you living your life?

“Those who are awake live in a constant state of amazement” – the budha

No matter what time it is, wake me, even if it’s in the middle of a Cabinet meeting.
Ronald Reagan
Sleep, that deplorable curtailment of the joy of life.
Virginia Woolf
“Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread” (Proverbs 20:13).

(say it with me.. awww)
