Everyone deserves to fly

I am sitting here as I type listening to “Defying Gravity” from the “Wicked” musical. Yes that is right “Defying Gravity”. I have to confess the song is a great one. Just the lyrics alone make me want to stand up and do all the things that fear has kept me from doing. The lyrics are really great but the score is amazing if you haven’t you should download and listen to this song.  As I listen and enjoy the crescendo of the music I wonder am I compelled by the lyrics, the score and rhythm or a combination of all of the above.

Lyrics right here_————————————————————-
Something has changed within me Something is not the same I’m through with playing by the rules Of someone else’s game Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep It’s time to trust my instincts Close my eyes: and leap!
It’s time to try Defying gravity I think I’ll try Defying gravity And you can’t pull me down!

I’m through accepting limits ”cause someone says they’re so Some things I cannot change But till I try, I’ll never know! Too long I’ve been afraid of Losing love I guess I’ve lost Well, if that’s love It comes at much too high a cost! I’d sooner buy Defying gravity Kiss me goodbye I’m defying gravity And you can’t pull me down:
End Lyrics————————————–

I really have nothing at the moment that I would like to accomplish and am not because of fear but I really feel like getting up and doing something, it is at this moment that I realize I am a victim of “misattribution of value” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misattribution_of_arousal). This  psychological term is an interesting one and I am sure that many of us have experienced this at one moment or another.

We mistake what is causing an arousal in use I am convinced by the song that I have some unfinished work that fear or others are stopping from doing but I really do not. The song is just a well written powerful song. When used properly this can whip calm innate people in gentile settings into a frenzy and when unrecognized many otherwise rational people can do some irrational things.  It is fine to enjoy a riveting song or soul-stirring movie but we before we go quitting our 9 to 5 and joining the peace core perhaps we should make sure we are not a victim to the misattribution of arousal.
