Elliot Carterpassed away at the tender age of 103 years old.  The music composed by Elliot Carter was dramatic, new and classical all at the same time. His music can transform and take away the listener in the most pleasing fashion. After the stock market crash of 1829 Elliot Carter entered the music program at Harvard. Most of the professors found his music to be not classical enough or to different he tried to write in the style that pleased his professors and the public but by his own confession it wasn’t until he wrote for himself that he found true success.

“As a young man, I harbored the populist idea of writing for the public. I learned that the public didn’t care. So I decided to write for myself. Since then, people have gotten interested.”

Writting for himself brought the world some of the most beautiful inspirational pieces of all times. He has won countless awards, including two Pulitzer prizes and made his music inspiration for much of the music that has been and will be written.

Elliot Carters quote sounds eerily reminiscent of a quote from another brilliant man who passed away. “

Get closer than ever to your customers. So close, in fact, that you tell them what they need well before they realize it themselves. “More than Apple listening to us, it’s us who listens to Apple.” –Steve Jobs

It seems when we do great things for people not because of people we become great.
