Ain’t nobody got time for that!

My oldest is 14 years old, Kyle. A lot of different things happen to kids as the grow up and stumble through the adolescent years finally bursting onto the scene as an adult. One thing I have noticed about the 14-year-old boy is that he now, without being reminded, flushes the toilet and washes his hands. I know, super gross, but if you have children and they are boys or if you are exposed to nephews friends children or work with children and if maybe you had a brother or are a boy yourself and can recall your childhood you know. You know that boys under the age of 14 are busy. Boys under 14 have little time for toilet flushing and hand washing. Boys are thinking about the “bigger fish to fry”, the “dragons to slay”, “forts to build”, race cars to design”, “airplanes to fly”. The boy’s mind is electric alive with energy. The boy’s mind is “wide open”. It is this wide-eyed idealistic imagination and energy that while keeps the toilet seat up also becomes something we covet as we watch the unwashed leave the restroom.

After speaking with Kyle, my fears of him losing the child like essence and energy are dissipated and replaced with a realization that he is still a child at heart but as an adolescent he is learning to focus the imagination and energy that reminds him to flush and wash. I have a feeling watching the kids grow and learn is going to be more fun than myself growing and learning

I will see

peace
