Make it a habit

So I was working on completing my degree, I was on the phone with someone and she let me know that I should do my school work at the same time every day for at least a month. “Then it will become a habit”.  A month and after that this terrible thing that I have to motivate myself to do, this beating of a task that before I even commence will become second nature. I was skeptical, but I gave it a shot and well long story short, (I know too late right?) my school work became second nature.

Life can feel so daunting and rough, Situations are not what we would like them to be. We have more enemies than friends, work is full of jerks and because of all this we can get to feeling down. Why not take a minute right now and list things you are grateful for. The list may be short. You may suprise yourself and find in this epiphany  list making moment that you live a semi charmed life. It doesn’t matter if the list is short or long, what matters is you make one. It doesn’t even matter if it is mental or literal you just have to take a moment and make one. Done?

Now do this for a month so that it becomes a habit. Everyday at a certain time list out what makes you happy. You may have fallen into the trap that everyone else has and made depression a habit. Now I am asking that you make happiness a habit.

Why stop at the list? Do you enjoy bicycling, running, playing some sport? What about reading or writing? Do you see where I am going with this? the habit of depression works when we cannot see the things in our life we control and only focus on what we cannot control. Make happiness a habit. Do it for one month it will truly change your life.
