the power of knowledge

awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. That is the definition for knowledge. I am not sure what you do for a living. You may be a mechanic or a doctor an architect or an archaeologist. I make my living using computers. I ran into a very troubling problem with a system just the other day and  had no idea what to do.  I went through all the regular trouble shooting steps and I was still stumped. I was chatting with a colleague of mine and mentioned being stumped. He had encountered the same problem before and let me know what worked for him. I followed his advice and the problem was solved. I love the power of knowledge.

You know I had an English professor who told me once that he had a problem with a certain North American idiom.  The one he had a problem with was “experience is the greatest teacher.” He said this idiom was incorrect because, unless one analyzes experience and learns from it than all you get is scars but if you analyze and learn from experience than the experience is the greatest teacher.  See I have to agree with him and I would like to change the idiom. “analysis of experience is the greatest teacher.”download

So a great teacher  imparts knowledge on his students and since analysis of experience is our greatest teachers there are often many experiences that we do not need to have to learn from. For example analysis of a drug addict will teach us not to do drugs

I guess today’s message is never stop learning. Always employ analysis and develop an understanding and life will be more rich and full, with or without, a lot of experience.
