Americas favorite highway Oasis

If you are ever traveling on I 95 and going through SOuth Carolina and North Carolina or through North Carolina to SOuth Carolina do your self a favor and stop at South of The Border.  This place is so cool! I am telling you their are hotdogs trinkets, bumper stickers, a miniature golf course, a hotel and a 200 foot tall tower with a Sombrero/observation deck at the top.

The place is campy and ciche and a ghost town. We pulled up, got gas and counted the visitors as well as support staff the total was 12. Yep 12 souls, more may have came rolling in as we fueled up but they were few and far between. We tried to ride the tower to the top but the elevator was shut down. When we left, after of course buying a shot glass and bumper sticker. My girlfriend immediately googled the tourist attraction and learned the history of the attractions founder.

Alan Schafer started his sprawling empire with just a simple beer stand.  With hard work and determination, he made his empire. As well as the south of the Border attraction mr. Schafer was responsible for saving and developing Blenheim Ginger Ale company. As we walked and road through the attraction on the side of Highway 95 I couldn’t help but remember the words of one of the worlds most successful businessmen.

I’m convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.” — Steve Jobs

so in other words don’t quit!
