Should they have it?

Should the people have the power? I am usually not political or apropos for that matter, however I would like to make an exception for this post. Just recently Cody Wilson, the Director and spokesperson for Defense distributed, announced Dark Wallet. Dark Wallet is a browser app for Bitcoin payments which works to hide your payment information.

Do you use Bitcoins? I do not. I have no issue with Bitcoins though I truly feel like the use of Bitcoins is a good thing for everyone and Will not go into that any further in this post. What I would like to do though is unravel Cody Wilson. See he runs Defense Distributed which is a company that made the news some time ago for  making available the plans for printing a gun with a 3d printer. As far as I can tell this was done in an effort to demonstrate and protest the in Codys own words

the collectivization of manufacture? The institutionalization of the human psyche? I’m not sure. But I can tell you one thing: this is a symbol of reversibility. They can never eradicate the gun from the earth.”

Whatever the reason printing a gun with a three d printer is now possible and can and is being done. I am not a gun fanatic however I think the existence of companies like DD point to the futility of organizations when they attempt to control the populace.

Whatever your stance is on gun control like it or love it you cannot deny one thing. Mankind people cannot be controlled. They can be lead guided and supported but not controlled.

“Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in leading yourself—your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation, conduct. Invest at least 20% leading those with authority over you and 15% leading your peers.” — Dee Hock, Founder and CEO Emeritus, Visa

“Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry.”— Winston Churchill

Sumatran tiger, Indonesia

Let me be clear I am in no way an anarchist I understand the need for leaders and leadership but when I hear words like control being used I can’t help but wonder who these leaders think they are kidding man cannot be controlled.  Perhaps instead of control leaders should lead.

Being a leader is much more than attempting to control (cannot be done) it is being part of the team and guiding the team. I think it was put best by a leadership guru when he said

“Leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead to motivate them.” — John Maxwell

You may not be a leader but you can recognize true leaders and you may be in a situation where you are called on to act as a leader at work or home. Something to keep in mind is this, no one will respect and follow (for a significant time) someone who does not respect and trys to control them

“The Tigers are getting hungry”
