You can still do something good

There was this amazing story carried by multiple news networks the other day. It seems that Bryant Collins, a mechanic was driving down a GA highway and saw a 15 month old baby crawling on the shoulder.  Mr. Collins pulled over, picked up the baby and called the authorities. He waited there on the highway with the baby for two hours until authorities arrived and the baby was reunited with her mother.

Besides the actions in the story itself, what makes this so amazing, is the back story for Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins had served 10 years in prison for drug charges. He was released from prison and began working as a auto mechanic in the Atlanta area. It can easy to be skeptical and sometimes cynical when it comes to a persons rehabilitation and while I have no idea what Mr. Collins does when he is not at work I do know that what he did the other day on the highway saved a life and showed compassion and concern for his fellow man.

“It made me feel good that I could be in society and I could do good,” he said. “Just as you can do bad, you can do good.”   — Bryant Collins

Isn’t that important? Doing good in our society. We may not see a baby on the road while driving into work today or home from work today, but I can almost guarantee we will get the opportunity to do good and I hope we are not to focused to miss it, and then not so apathetic that we do not take the opportunity.
