Engineering a better today for tomorrow

Yesterday I was listening to an interview with Peter Thiel.  Of course he was promoting his book “Zero to One”. The book has been added to my reading list. I cannot wait to get to this book. For those who do not know who Peter Thiel is, he was one of the co-founders of paypal. He now works as a venture capitalist and was a lot of the money behind Facebook.

In his promoting his book Peter points to the lack of the new scientific innovations in the last 40 years throughout the world. Peter points to nuclear power and its development. The first Nuclear power plant came online in the United States in 1955.

By my count this is more than 40 years. Peter points out that part of the problem when it comes to the lack of innovation and basically the world putting science to work for their problems comes from the lack of government sponsorship and a fear of science.

This fear is usually unfounded. See most fear results not from a proper education but through a lack of education. We cannot really directly influence political policy but we can learn as much as we can.

I am compelled to revisit my favorite mantra. Knowledge is power
