Well, if the plural of anecdote is not data  what is data? “Data is a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables; restated, pieces of data are individual pieces of information. Data is measured, collected and reported, and analyzed, whereupon it can be visualized using graphs or images.”  — Wikipedia page on Data

So, know we know what data is and what data is not. What do we do with that? Well let’s use it wisely. It has been used wisely in the past and  is being used wisely presently.I am convinced that the men and women who use the data they have, in the most wise way, experience the highest level of success in everything they do. I also feel as though the men and women who are not experiencing high rates of success are not doing so for lack of data as much as bad data, non data or anecdote.

an·ec·dote/ˈanəkˌdōt/
noun
  1. a short and amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person.

Anecdotes are wonderful tools and often used to illicit an emotional response in a subject. Often acedotal evidence makes the user participate in the anecdotal logical fallacy. Instead of employing data, measure, collected, analyzed facts the subject is stirred up by a story that is short interesting and sometimes heartwarming. The subject then acts.

If a subject acts on an indiviual level this is fine. He sees a homeless man gives this man a job that works. He sees a homeless man determines that society is broken and starts a bolshevik revolution well may not work out so well. Before taking any sweeping action in your life career or society I encourage you to collect, measure and  analyze the facts. This is a recipe for success.
