Got me to thinking

Posted: January 20, 2015 in Uncategorized

Yesterday was Martjn Luther King day, the legacy of King was one that was powerful peaceful and meaningful. It was the non violent actions of Dr. King that pushed to the forefront in the United States culture and political climate.
Despite all the political and cultural changes made through the actions of Dr. King and his freedom fighters there have still been some terrible racial atrocities committed. There is an activist movement that has stemmed from these atrocities with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter.
The racial atrocities are terrible. I would revisit them in this post but, I will not because of time. If you want to know more about the atrocities you can google blacklivesmatter. It was Martin Luther King day and I was reading and listening to stories with #blacklivesmatter, this got me to thinking about racism and the dream of Dr. King.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is what I was thinking about. I also heard a wonderful comment from an activist leader. She said “race is a social fiction with nonfiction consequences.” I have always felt that education, when applied can solve any problem. Racism is a problem but, through an education and a realization that “race is a social fiction” I feel like Kings dream will be achieved!!
