Everything was still ok

I grew up listening to and watching stories that were what I would categorize as tidy. See the stories had closure. They are ended and did it neatly within 30 minutes or 100 pages.
I grew up this way. Reading books watching movies that were all neat and tidy. I grew up graduated from high school and joined the army. I was 22 years old and encouraged to pick up and read “The Great Gatsby”. The book was amazing it was a short read and should be read by everyone at least once. The book was also one of the first stories that did not have a neat and the key ending for me. Despite the lack of the neat and tidy ending the book was wonderful.
I then watched a movie as an adult called “No Country for Old Men”. Now I am not sure if this was the first movie I have seen which lacks closure but it is the earliest movie I can remember right now, that did not have a neat and tidy ending.
I have not lived a long life but things have happened in my life. I had something happen that wasn’t fun. The event made me a little depressed and when asked by a colleague, what it was I wanted. I responded with the word closure and she told me “that closure is over rated.” She was right.
Most of the time, when things happen, the people who experience these things never get closure and you know everything is still ok. I want a o end this post with a quote from “The great Gatsby”. It is the final line in the book and it says it all in a succinct manner.

” So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past”
