No bogey man

when I was younger there was a bogey man hiding in my closet. He was a bad guy and he stayed in the closet if there was a night light lit. The light kept the bogey man in check because the light was good and the bogey man was everything evil and bad. Guess what reader? In case you didn’t know, I am telling you, there s no such thing as the bogey man.

In the 80s all across the Unoted States of America politicians attorney generals and law abiding citizens ushered in a “tough on crime era”. If you were middle class or above your neighborhoods looked good. The prisons filled up with the poor and minorities but no one complained because they were all criminals. Then the recession hit and a lot of us became poor. Now we lived in the neighborhoods on the fringe. The police attorney generals and politicians did not soften up on crime and criminals. Right now almost 1 percent of the population in the United States is in prison.

See the thing about being tough on crime is this, there is no bogey man. A tough on crime campaign has to include and be part of a better social movement that involves education and empowerment.

If there was a pure evil bogey man then, a tough on crime policy would be fine. It would do all of us well when dealing , with people to remember that there is no bogey man.
