The Shadow Knows

Posted: September 29, 2016 in Uncategorized

I make an hour commute one way everyday to come to work. Yes it is absolutely no fun but, it gives me time to listen to books on cd. Books on cd are pretty cool, not as much fun as reading but when I crack my book open on the staring wheel all the other drivers honk and scream and squeal tires so whatever.

I am about a third of the way through a Rollins Six Sigma book on cd called “The 6th Extinction”. This is my first Six Sigma book and so far it has been pretty good. In the book the reader mentions that one of the scientist has been studying the Shadow biosphere. I really liked the name of the shadow biosphere and I did some, really small amount mind you, research on the shadow biosphere. Best I can tell is that, the shadow biosphere is a hypothetical theory unproven and the theory is that a whole other type of life exists and are RNA based opposed to DNA based. Now the idea of the shadow biosphere has been criticized however there is evidence that at one time on earth organisms that were RNA based did exist.

I am no scientist but I do believe that pretty much anything is possible and that life and our world is pretty big. I like the idea of the shadow biosphere because, it is wide open and a great exercise in imagination.

You need a wide open world and a big imagination to get through life. So dream and imagine big everyone

On the Edge of Now and everything

Posted: September 28, 2016 in Uncategorized

There is a relatively new book out called “Now; The Physics of Time”. I am still plowing through the “new” Judy Blume book “In the Unlikely Event” (I am halfway through and absolutely loving this book too she hit it out of the ball park so far) so I haven’t even picked up the book “Now” by Robert Muller but I did read a critique and a treatment that outlined the why and how of the book by mr. Muller and now I have to read now (ha ha pun so intended).

The treatment says that, Roberts wife, knowing her husband was a physicist  asked him, if it was possible according to physics to time travel. Boom the book was born well actually, I think it was more like a big question lots of research and then boom the book was born.

So do you want to know Roberts answer? Well here’s a hint, we will not need to rebuild a Delorean. See the answer is no, but I think the book is worth reading because in the vein of Einstein Robert seems to answer that huge question that has really kept me up at night. What is time and what is now. I cannot speak to his answer because I have yet to read his book but it seems that now is now because of the expanding nature of the universe. Oh man isn’t that exciting? Are you excited or are you scratching your head wishing you had back the time you invested reading my post so far?

Ok Ok so I totally hate mansplaining and I am not going to do it but, without of course reading Bob’s book (hmm I don’t know Mr. Muller that well do I) without reading Mullers book I think what his theory is saying is that because physics tells us that the universe is expanding, we are stuck in that expansion and we can only move within the expansion. I am imaging a surfer riding a never ending wave. The surfer and everything we know can only really go with the flow (oh another great pun ok not great maybe just semi great).  So you maybe sad about not traveling through time but  you me everyone there every was and will be are on the edge of something big! That’s kind of cool for me to think about. I love the idea of dynamic energy and always moving and learning and know according to the book I haven’t read yet and an unproven theory (Muller plans to prove this theory in collaboration with the LIGOS lab, LIGOS discovered the existence of gravitational waves), I am learning that perhaps we are all dynamic forces of energy together moving through space and time towards something truly amazing. What will the amazing thing be? I don’t know but I am glad and lucky to be part of it and so should you.

I can’t hear you na na na

So, I am a pretty big comic book fan. My favorite all time comic book hero and story is the Amazing Spider Man. I really enjoy this work of art! Stan Lee and Steve Ditko are masters and The Amazing Spider Man is their Opus. Really I am a huge fan. Yesterday while reading a Stan Lee forward in an Amazing Spider Man graphic novel I learned that, Spider Man was almost never made.

Stan Lee said that he was told many reasons by many people why Spider Man would fail but he and Ditko did it anyways and oh man I am so glad they did.

It is easy to tear people down and tell them why they will never succeed (this is probably why so many people do it) but be careful you maybe that idiot who says something like Spider Man is a stupid idea or Trump could never win the republican nomination.

I encourage you today to not pay attention to the critics. If you are doing something good, dig in stick your fingers in your ears and say something like “na na na I cant hear you” and then be awesome!

Hope springs eternal and eternally

So, some time ago I blogged about soap, yeah I know the blog was a little cheesy but aren’t they all? I mean everyone’s blogs too not just mine. They are all a little cheesy.  It is like someone gets a view into another persons mind and there is all this rambling and cheesy thoughts but, digression aside, I did blog about soap.

The blog was about how important soap was in modern medicine and the role it played in society. Soap made it possible for a hospital to practice medicine without killing people through infection. Before soap things were pretty grim looking especially for pregnant women. Many mothers did not survive childbirth before soap.

Another major advancement in modern medicine has been antibiotics. The antibiotic can kill almost every major bacteria out there. Bacteria that loves to destroy the host. Wait did I type almost? Yes. But, why almost? Because there have been super bugs or bacteria popping up. Bacteria resistant to all antibiotics and what are we to do?

Well do not loose hope. There is a med student in Australia who has discovered a way to break down bacteria with a piece of plastic. This advancement is a big deal! It really is and there are many more to come.

I am truly convicned that; with the right attitude and work ethic the human being is capable of conquering all forms of adversity like SUPER BUGS it just that we can never lose hope.

“We have always held to the hope, the belief, the conviction that there is a better life, a better world, beyond the horizon.” — F.D.R.

Well first and foremost Friday is the start of the weekend and the weekend is great (for those of us who work jobs that are from Monday – Friday). The weekend belongs to the individual and not management.  Despite all the advancements of capitalism and the economy very few of us are able to work on our own terms and we still need to kowtow to management all week. Now on the weekend we can finally (within reason of course) cut loose. The weekend is time for recreation for most.

I had an English professor who, spent a 10 minute digression speaking about the word recreation. He mentioned (among other things about the word) how, when dissected the word meant to create again. The English professor was one of my favorite professors and during his digressions he often waxed philosophical.  He pointed out how a well balanced life need not build over again and I thought that this was an interesting take on the word recreation.

Some of my weeks are more balanced than  others. Some weeks I get to Friday and it is just another day and other weeks when management inflicts draconian style tactics on the organization I am so grateful and ready for Friday.

My wish for you is for more of the later weeks and obviously more Fridays than Mondays

Happy Friday everyone!!

All the Rooms

Posted: September 21, 2016 in Uncategorized

There is an Indian Proverb that says that everyone is a house with four rooms, a physical, an emotional, a mental, and a spiritual . Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time, but unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.

There is  a colleague of mine at work who is simply amazed about the talents of all his co- worker and the diversity of it.  See I work on computer stuff and every one of my coworkers is talented at computer science but also posses skills in other facets of life as well.

See every person has many facets and needs to do as the proverb says and spend time in each room

On my way into work I heard this awesome commercial on the radio for tires. I know right, tires it is so crazy but seriously the commercial really resonated with me so I stopped by Tire rack before work noooo not that much. But seriously, the commercial was awesome. See there is this voice of  this guy and he says something like “you with the truck loading it with groceries. Get out there and get new tires and do truck stuff. Drive up a mountain and plant a flag at the top. You know Truck stuff!” It is such a cool commercial.

There is this You tube channel called People are Amazing and the channel shows people performing some incredible stunts and I have to agree people are amazing. Guess what if you are reading this and you are not my friend Cassies dog you are a person and if you are Cassies dog, you are in so much trouble, you are on the couch and on her latop and oh bad bad Jax bad. Anyway you are a person and you are amazing and you should get out there and do amazing things. Climb a mountain and put a flag in it. Now imagine that with like a cool commanding voice. Huh see pretty awesome right?

But seriously do something amazing today to some people stuff except Jax you need to get off the couch and be a good boy.
