How Amazing is that and this and that…

When I was young I read the book “And To Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street” by Dr. Seuss. When I got older I reread and reread the book, I absolutely love this book. The book is told through the point of view of a young man whose dad told him to keep his eyes open and see what he can see and not lie about what he sees. The boy spins a colorful tale of his trip down Mulberry street on his way to and from school.

Life is an amazing trip that takes well all of our life (deep stuff right?) but, seriously life is amazing and sometimes we take life for granted.  We walk to and from school with our eyes closed and miss out on some amazing stuff. Maybe we all need to be more childish and open our eyes and see the amazing world we are living in.

In the 80’s there was this big meditation and mindfulness movement.  The movement encouraged people to slow their breathing which should in turn slow down the racing mind and make someone more mindful. When I think of meditation I think of the book Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. This book was written in 167 A.C.E. and it encourages meditation and mindfulness. The age of the book leads me to believe that humanity has always had some issues with being mindful so there really is nothing new under the sun. But the encouragement has also always been there I love this quote in the book from Aurelius “Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them.”   Some ancient shaman believe that the world is how you dream it is. What if you are to busy to dream a world or what if you are so busy the world you dream is more of a nightmare than a dream? So keep your eyes open and allow yourself to be amazed today and dream of a world that you would be pleased to leave your children and grandchildren.
