Oh the Agony

When I was younger there was a montage at the beginning of the television program ABC Sports. It was an awesome display of athletes from various disciplines performing while an announcer and music played over the images. At the end of the Montage the announcer would say something like “experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”

I bet if you spoke with anyone my age they could tell you all about this montage it was a big thing.

I think about the agony of defeat and I consider the phrase agony of and how it can apply to victory as well as defeat. Agony is an odd thing isn’t it? I heard a Zen statement that said “a wise man can find comfort in hell.” Life and the world is far from perfect but we should definitely never stop chasing perfection, I totally agree with Lombardi on that one. The biggest problem I have is that I am just know realizing what perfection is and guess what? I have been way off most of my life with my perception of perfect.

Perfect is not perfect. Perfect is sometimes dirty and broken at other times perfect is clean and smooth perfect is right now and later on. Perfect is being comfortable in heaven and in hell.

There are many things I will not be able to control but the one thing I can control is my comfort. It took a long time to realize this but when I did, oh man it was freeing. Things that where once priorities became a little less important and the mundane really became amazing.

I wish many things for my children as they are now becoming adults and one thing I hope they learn, more quickly than  I did, is that they are perfect.
