Precautionary Principle

Precautionary Principle: the principle that the introduction of a new product or process whose ultimate effects are disputed or unknown should be resisted. It has mainly been used to prohibit the importation of genetically modified organisms and food.

It can be easy to get comfortable, with our homes, careers and lives in general we can be comfortable and complacent. I like running in the morning. Running in the morning is never comfortable there is always some level of pain and discomfort but, when I finish that 3 mile run I feel accomplished and I know that there is nothing the day can throw at me. I try to welcome change and progress.

No progress happens without risk or without moving from ones comfort zone. Life does not happen without risk or moving. See my problem with living life within the confines of the precautionary principle is two fold.

First it is impossible to mitigate away risk. No matter what you do there will always be risk of failure or adverse effects. Instead of a precautionary principle one would be better served to employ a Risk reward management.

Second is that, because of the impossibility many who employ the precautionary principle are living in an altered state of reality.

So, I wish you luck with the inevitable change and  I hope that the reward is always greater than the risk
