It’s always there

An interviewer on the radio was discussing moments that have been imprinted on Americans that are part of a certain generation. Those moments when you are asked and can remember “where you were when fill in the blank happened”. The interview came up with; 9/11 World Trade center and Pentagon attacks,  Challenger space launch disaster and OJ Simpson Bronco chase from the LA police department.

The interviewee agreed with the interviewer in that they were moments that are imprinted on society but they differed in that the Challenger wreck and the 9/11 attack were disasters.

I began to think about the difference between the Challenger disaster and the 9/11 attack. Space travel is dangerous and carries with it high risk. The 9/11 attack victims were men and women coming to work. Work at office buildings, work that is carries low risk and yet many of the workers suffered awful fates and some even death.

See, danger and risk is always there. We can do our best to avoid it and yet it will still be there. The fear of danger can often cause stress and in some cases it can cause a crippling sensation.  Under extreme stress bodies can and do shut down.

It is imperative to living a happy healthy life style to learn how to recognize and deal with stress.  One coping mechanism that is not recommended is denial, because that danger is always there.

Don’t get me wrong denial does work, but often only for a short window. So a better strategy than denial is honesty and hope.

Whatever you are dealing with or not dealing with, be honest about it.

Examine what is happening and could happen. Perspective is very important.

List the pros and cons of the possible outcomes. Once again get some perspective

Allow yourself to run through all the emotions with the stress you have. Fear is usually only one part.

Finally speak with friends and families about your stresses. They can and will help and you maybe a help to them as well.

I encourage every one to not live in denial gain perspective and some hope this holiday season

peace
