Weed is now legal in 8 states for recreational use. Cannabinoids, which are the chemicals in weed, can, when consumed on a regular basis, cause cognitive brain problems for people under the age of 25. Please note that alcohol consumption causes more brain problems than weed but weed legalization is new. Weed cigarettes and alcohol all legal now and all have consequences. As a parent many will worry that their children could get involved with weed, alcohol or cigarette use.

I have always felt that, education is a major tool that, should be used to alleviate the detrimental effect a of worry. We parents should educate ourselves on the yealth effects of weed and in turn pass the education on to our children. Armed with our education we can make a decision about our own weed consumption. As an adult we have an education and can use the education to weigh the consequences of our actions and finally act. I think this combination of education, judgement and action really is what being an adult is all about. Becoming an adult does not happen over night either, we grow into it. I think it starts as early as elementary school. There in elementary school, we learn that, our actions have consequences. In high school we are given more freedom coupled with greater consequence. College years are the same. Our whole lives we are learning about; actions and consequence, risk and reward and finally what do we understand? I think it is the purpose of all life. What is that???

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
Ralph Waldo EmersonRalph Waldo Emerson

So today I encourage us all to; be useful, be honorable, be compassionate, make a difference, just be an adult.
