What lights you up

Posted: March 31, 2017 in Uncategorized

The true reality of life is that, we never know when it’s going to end. We are not born with an expiration stamped on our foot. Tomorrow may or may not come the next minute may or may not come. Because life is fleeting and a mystery, we should realize that, every moment of every day matters.

Because every moment matters, we should do what lights us up. Today I’m going to write down three things on love and would like to do with and in my life. I encourage you to do the same thing what three things do you absolutely love? Are you spending time with these three things? If not what are you going to do about it? Good luck and be patient, remember it takes 10 years to become overnight success. Also, remember that your life should be fluid, many successful men and women started careers and one field and found their true joy in real 630 and another one, almost no one works in the field that they hold a degree in.

Avoid the Abyss

Posted: March 30, 2017 in Uncategorized

“This is how we avoid the Abyss.” Imagine if you will, a ring that causes the wearer to be invisible and do as he or she wishes without punishment or impunity. What morality will the wearer take on then what decisions would he or she make?

Ahh, the ancient philosophy question about right or wrong.

“Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it.”

Augustine of Hippo

In Plato’s book, The Republic his brother Glaucon states that no man can resist the temptation to do the wrong thing because, right and wrong is, a social construct.  Socrates answers the man stating that a man who does not resist temptation would make himself a slave to the temptation therefore only living and acts virtuously can make a man free.

Many live virtuously in an effort to avoid the abyss.  Almost every major religion has an abyss, every society has its prisons. In the book The Scarlet Letter, the first two buildings constructed in the new world were a church and a prison.

I am all for avoiding the abyss but I am free and I encourage everyone who is not free, to work for freedom.

I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free… so other people would be also free.

Everyone and no one

Bitcoin is a platform for engaging in transactions online. When you use bitcoin you update a public ledger that is shared across computers around the world. The ledger is owned by everyone who has a bit coin wallet. Bit coin is a favorite of libertarians around the world. Some criminals enjoy the anonymity that bitcoin provides.

Commercial interest enjoy the speed of the transactions take place at in the accuracy of bitcoin transactions. I myself feel like bitcoin represents a new way of governing the world. The bit coin model if you will, is a model in which every individual is their own agent but together do great things. The bit coin tomorrow for me is very much like the model for the original United States government. The United States government was only in operated by everyone and no one at the same time just like bitcoin. The major problem with bitcoin is that human depravity seems to have no limit and bitcoin is used to engage in more and more deprave actions. So, the bit coin model does have some problems but like Lincoln said the government should be a fostering hand. In the United States we have just recently went through a regime change, it is my hope that this regime will work to employ the bit coin model and in powering the citizens of the United States and be like Lincoln and protecting the citizens of the United States. We will see.

Have you ever

Have you ever tried to, catch a greased pig? I have not, but I have watched children try it and it was hilarious and it looked pretty tough. Seriously watching the kids chase the greased pigs was so funny!

I hear the idiom “like a greased pig” and the words “Teflon Don” and I imagine tough things to do that are also quite rewarding. Have you ever eaten bacon? Bacon is delicious and it requires catching a pig. Now, pigs aren’t usually greasy but greasing a pig makes catching it funny. Catching ungreased pigs is not that easy either but it is so worth it. Bacon goes well with eggs, waffles, and coffee. For those of us who, do not live on a farm cooking bacon does not involve catching a pig but we do have to work to earn money and trade the money in for bacon. Depending on the job you do getting bacon may be fun or hard or fun and hard to do but it is so worth it.  Teflon Don, those words were used in describing Mafia bosses who never seemed to be convicted of really awful actions they have done. Al Kapone was one of the most famous gangsters in the world. Al did it all, murder, racketeering,  collusion, selling illegal goods and bribes. Kapone left in his wake death and destruction for families all over the United States. It took a lot to catch and prosecute Al Kapone but when he was prosecuted I can’t help but think many lives were spared and the United States could sleep better.

Life can seem hard but I have to encourage you to focus on, the rewards from the hard parts and to do your best to have fun!

It’s Always there

It lingers and lurks in the background, no matter what we know as truth or fact we will always have some doubt. How can we fight doubt? The enemy of doubt is faith. In the Christian text, Hebrews 11 speaks about faith. Hebrews 11 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

To fight off doubt we should engage in actions grounded in hope and education. We should learn from yours and others mistakes and experiments. When we learn, we gain a sight this sight helps us develop insight.  With insight and hope, we can act.

The best way to fight off doubt is with faith, action and education. Fight doubt with hope  in the future hindsight about the past and action right now

Outside of the chamber

Posted: March 24, 2017 in Uncategorized

Earlier this week our preacher encouraged the congregation to get out of their comfort zone to help others. We should obviously help our family and friends but real growth real joy real accomplishment comes when we go out of our way to help strangers and dare I say, enemies. He mentioned the words echo chamber and I immediately thought about an article in the Washington post. The article explained how social media often acts as an echo chamber and mentioned some steps the consumer can take to avoid getting trapped in this echo chamber.

A Reflection on Comfort

Growth comes with pain; the internet, facebook, this blog are probably not too painful for my one fan to read because chances are I echo the sentiments of my one follower. To avoid getting trapped in the echo chamber we have to, get outside our comfort zone.  I encourage you today to learn something and do something new. Do something safe but painful, work harder and get outside your comfort zone by helping a complete stranger.

Just speak it

Alexa, turn on the kitchen lights. Alexa, tell me the news. Alexa, play music. I bought the Amazon echo device as soon as it went on sale. I grew up watching the tv show, Star Trek the Next Generation. On the sci-fi show, the spaceship that the Star Trek crew flew around space in was controlled by a high-powered computer that, would work with the voice commands of the crew. As soon as I saw the commercial for the Echo on the Amazon website I knew that I wanted a device that would work a lot like the high-powered voice computer on the Star Trek tv show.

The Amazon Echo device in my home controls the lights and thermostat I am working on setting up other home devices like; door locks and maybe the sprinkler system. The Amazon Echo technology is still new for me and not quite ubiquitous. The other day my girlfriends’ niece was over, she is a two-year-old and is still learning to speak properly, I watched her mimic her aunt and try to turn on the lights in our kitchen by speaking to the device.

Seeing the two-year-old speaking light into existence made me think about a new book released by Yuval Noah Harari,  “Homo Deus;  A brief history of Tomorrow”.  In his book, Yuval plays with the notion of man becoming god-like.

If you believe in the Christian, Islam, or Judaism faith you believe that, god spoke the world and everything in it into exsistence.  Speaking into existence would be step one towards creating a god-like being, step two would be??? I would think creation of life or preservation of life.

We as a society are living in a moment of history that is pivotal we will shape the new gods. What will we do as gods? my hope is that as gods we will build art and save lives. Basically I hope and believe that, man will do good. So go out there and prove me right by, doing good today.
