Happy New Year!!

Have you seen the movie, The Hunger Games?  In the movie The Hunger Games, a dystopian future is presented and in this dystiopian future the continent is ruled by a capital who, choose two children from each district to compete to the death in a hunger game every year. There are 12 districts so each 23 children are basically sentenced to death.  Before the children are sent into the hunger games arena to fight to their death the game maker gives them his blessing with the catchy phrase, “May the odds be ever in your favor”.

I hope you have made a list of new years resolutions, if you haven’t stop reading and go write down your resolutions for 2017. I know, I know, you never keep them but who cares? I mean see the children picked for the Hunger games have no choice they must play and guess what? 2017 is here you have no choice you must play. Since you have to play, why not go all in? I mean it why not dream big and make a really awesome list of stuff you, want, need and have to do? I made one and the list may seem lame to some but for me each entry represents milestones, priorities and accomplishments. I know that the odds are against me but see when I so crush this list I will feel that much better and so will you.

Happy New Year everyone!! If you did not make a list go make one and if you did, May the odds be ever in your favor

Happy New Year, welcome to 2014. What are your new years resolutions? Come on I know you made some. What are they? Have you written them down?  When I was a teenager there was some type of movement away from new years resolutions. I heard =people say things like “I don’t make them because I can’t keep them” or there were gems like “no need for them just live a fuller life”. It is hard to argue against the later point. I am not at all against living a full life, I am actually for that. I am also for new years resolutions. Why am I for New years resolutions? Well I am glad I asked myself that. I am for new years resolutions becasue of this quote.

“The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.” ~Denis Watiley

Deep right? Now who is Denis Waitley? Well Denis is the author of 16 books, the recipient of a phd and has lectured to astronauts, super bowl champions and top executives all over the world. Denis knows what it takes to be the best and do the best. Denis knows how important new years resolutions are. Denis knows how important it is to have a vision or goal. Something concrete something descriptive, something you can measure.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Denis. Figure out what you want for this year, in your life. It may be personal, professional or both. Then write it down. Go a step further figure out what you have to do to make this happen. Write that down. Save it somewhere and look at it every three months. It may evolve or change altogether. The time table may get longer or shorter. But do it today! Avoid making a resolution that depends heavily on others i.e. “I will get married”. Instead make it all on you i.e. “I will purpose, I will ask for a raise, I will start my company, I will run a marathon, climb a mountain, learn a new language or how to play an instrument.”

Set that goal that resolution and be precise. need another quote about the vision? A wonderful verse is found in Proverbs a warning actually. Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish:”

So what are you waiting on? Have a great New Year and good luck with your goals. Let’s meet up again in three months see were we are at on… whatever it is that you wrote down.
