Humans like routine and patterns. All humans may not admit this but we like to fall into routines and schedules it is simply being human. There are forces at work though that have their own schedules and agendas and at times seem to conspire against us. Morning run, no time for that morning coffee x that too, afternoon beer nope. Sometimes the forces that be push and change the schedule so much we can feel like our boat has been flipped upside down.

There is this racing sail boat owned by Hugo Boss. In case you didn’t know Hugo Boss is this high end mens suit maker real nice cuts. On you tube there is this video of the Hugo Boss racing sail boat turned sideways in the water. The captain of the boat proceeds to walk out onto the keel of the sideways boat and takes an iconic racing sail boat picture. Like a Boss! He doesn’t fret about the topsy turvy nature of his vessel he embraces it and eventually rights the ship but the whole time he remains the captain. I encourage you today to be the boss of your life right the ship and of course do it with style.

Obstacles can’t stop you. Problems can’t stop you. Most of all, other people can’t stop you. Only you can stop you. – Jeffrey Gitomer

Ahh such powerful words. Is there a better way to end the week? Jeffrey Gitomer makes his living through encouraging and empowering others. He is one of the many motivational speakers and business trainer. Perhaps you can tell through his quote that he truly believes in self empowerment. He can be sort of brash in his delivery, some call it realistic.

You may or may not agree with his attitude but Jeffrery’s quote should help encourage you. Give you affirmation of the control you have over your life. for some more gentle encouragement I purpose you look to

Garth Brooks song “I will sail my Vessel”.

You know a dream is like a river,
Ever changing as it flows,
and the dreamer is just a vessel,
that must follow where it goes.

Trying to learn from whats behind you,
and never knowing whats in store.
Makes each day a constant battle,
just to stay between the shores.

And i will sail my vessel,
till the river runs dry.
Like a bird apon the wind,
these waters are my sky.
I’ll never reach my destination
If i never try,
So I will sail my vessel,
till the river runs dry!

Too many times we stand aside,
and let the water slip away.
And what we put off till tomorrow,
has now become today.
So don’t you sit apon the shore line,
and say you’re satisfied.
Choose the chance to rapids,
and dare to dance the tides.

There is bond to be rough waters,
and i know i’ll take some falls,
with the good lord as my captin,
I can make it through them all!

If it is a wonderful song or a tough quote remember today and tomorrow your life is yours. You are in charge, you are the captain. Set the sails and head out!

Saturday afternoon my girlfriend and I boarded the docked Roseway Schooner and set sail for a two hour day sail. The Roseway is a schooner and historic landmark, it is also a sailboat and a lot of fun on a Saturday afternoon. After boarding the captain let us know where the life vests were and how to use them. The captain retreated to the helm at the back of the boat, or for the nautical readers, he took the helm at the boats stern.
The captains first mate took his position midship and explained how the sails were raised. After the first mates explanation orders were barked and everyone got to work raising the sail.
I held the rope listened for the order and on “altogether now” we pulled the ropes and raised the sail.
The ship was full and there were many people pulling on the line but, it wasn’t until we worked together that we could raise the sails. Working together can sometimes be difficult it can at other times seem impossible, but if we do not work together we will never set sail.
