I am not sure about where you live in the world but here in Georgia it feels to me like the winter season does not want to leave. Today the high will only reach 60 degrees. Tomorrow we should see sunny and 70. I love the warm and hot summers. The sun feels like it brings with its heat a rejuvenation to everything and an energy with it. The winter season brings a harsh cold breeze and usually dark blue and gray skies. The winter just for me feels like an energy drain. But, especially here in the south the winter season doesn’t last long. We are now well into spring and should be seeing blooming flowers longer days more bright and sunny skies.

Most people are pulling back the shades in all the rooms in their house and letting the sun spill in. Screen doors are getting a work out and kids are discovering new bugs and meeting new buds at the neighborhood playgrounds.

When the shades are pulled back and front door opened many will find hidden by the darker months some dust bunnies and cluttered shelves. Start spring cleaning. Some have their own spring cleaning rituals which involve a certain uniform of oversized clothes that can have cleaner spill and ruin them and maybe a bandana to keep their hair up and out of their eyes.  Some start with the outside sweeping off the patio and cleaning leaves from the gutters. Others are opposite, inside than outside. Others wing it with no rhyme or uniform to their spring cleaning, but everyone seems to do some type of spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning is great it helps get our homes in order and makes life that much less stressful and spring cleaning is not just for our homes. The spring time is as good a time as any to take a look at our homes, inside and outside,  work finances and family. You would be surprised how many of the little things can pile up. How many memberships to clubs you may want to cancel, how many unread e-mails have important information in them.

When I was a kid I hated spring cleaning but now as an adult I almost look forward to the spring cleaning. But not as much as I look forward to Summer.

I like to consider myself an optimistic person. I really truly believe every cloud has a silver lining and you will not see me knocked down for a long time. I was taught to never give up, but I have been knocked down, my share and sometimes it can be hard to get up but you have to because if you don’t get up you will never get up.

Sometimes inspiration helps us get back up people draw inspiration from god, nature and other people. Maybe you are down today, hopefully not. A good piece of inspiration for those who are down and to keep for when you get knocked down comes from ol’ blue eyes himself.

“Nothing is impossible I have found For when my chin is on the ground I pick myself up, dust myself off Start all over again” Frank Sinatra

The words are lyrics to his song Pick yourself up. The song is a great one. see??

Please teacher, teach me somethingNice teacher, teach me somethingI’m as awkward as a camelThat’s not the worst
My two feet haven’t met yet But I’ll be teacher’s pet yet ‘Cause I’m gonna learn To dance or burst
Nothing is impossible I have found For when my chin is on the ground I pick myself up, dust myself off Start all over again
Don’t lose your confidence if you slip Be grateful for a pleasant trip And pick yourself up, dust yourself off Start all over again
Work like a soul inspired Till the battle of the day is won You may be sick and tired But you’ll be a man, my son
Will you remember the famous men Who had to fall to rise again? So take a deep breath Pick yourself up, dust yourself off Start all over again
I’ll get some self assurance If your endurance is great I’ll learn by easy stages If you’re courageous and wait
To feel the strength I want to I must hang on to your hand Maybe by the time I’m fifty I’ll get up and do a nifty
So take a deep breath Pick yourself up, dust yourself off Start all over againThanks blue eyes

In 1980 while on the “Triumph” tour the king of pop, Michael Jackson donned a single white glove which would live on in pop music lore for what seems forever. There are many reasons swirling around as to why Mike wore the glove. Some say it was because of the skin disease, vitiligo showing up in his gloved hand while on tour. Later in his life the skin disease would creep to all parts of his body. Whatever the reason Mikes glove raised some eyebrows and made quite the impact. The glove along with red leather zippered jackets sold out of stores nationwide.

Over the last week I have noticed some other gloves on the hands on many people in public places. Bus stations, airports even the local school board employees. I am tempted to remind these individuals of the power of soap, however I refrain from this because, I have realized that what others see as neurosis is simply construed as good hygiene.

Seeing the gloved hands got me to thinking about life though. After leaving my parents home and venturing out on my own into the wild I wanted to life a full rich life. As I got older I realized life could get messy and I wanted a clean and ordered life. Now that I am yet a “little” older, I am beginning to realize that there is no such thing as clean and sanitized. We can wear all the gloves we want and try to control everything but we will realize this control is nothing more than a facade.  The good thing is that despite how messy and dirty life gets we will always have soap.

Drumroll please…. Today is Thursday annnnd The first day of Winter annnnd The 200 post on the blog www.john3corrigan.com. Impressed? I know it is not that big of a deal I mean winter comes every year and goes every year. Followed by spring, summer and fall.

Winter carries with it longer nights, shorter days and in many areas of the world a bitter cold and yet it is this time of the year that all types of celebrations are scheduled and festivities taken place. Why is that? Maybe because if we as humans can survive the winter we can celebrate this survival and know that despite the hardships and ups and downs of the new year everyone will be ok. When I think about winter and the end of the year and a new year approaching many images come to mind. Images of plants blooming animals awakening from slumber people shaking off the chill and getting ready to face a new year full of resolution for all their newly made resolutions (I know it’s lame).

Have you ever seen the movie “Defiance“?  The movie follows two Jewish brothers who escape the Nazi regime and build with other escapes a village in the woods. The movie is based on a true story and the move ends after the villagers survive through a year and the snow thaws. Despite this being the last scene of the movie the audience knows that the villagers will make it the ice has thawed the snow is clearing the sun is shinning and they will not only survive but thrive. This is our future after the ice has thawed and the snow has cleared there will be many exciting and new things to experience. Take this winter to rest relax and warm yourselves. The next year is going to be a trip.
